21 Train Services in Purwokerto Region Suspended Following M 5.4 Cilacap Earthquake
A magnitude (M) 5.4 earthquake struck Cilacap and its surrounding areas. As a result of the tremor, 21 train services within the KAI Daop 5 Purwokerto region were temporarily halted to minimise the impact of the shaking.
The earthquake occurred on Friday (4/9/2026) at 12:05 WIB. KAI Daop 5 Purwokerto took anticipatory measures by temporarily stopping several train services to ensure that the track conditions remained safe for passage.
“As a precautionary measure, 21 train services in the Daop 5 Purwokerto region underwent an Extraordinary Stop (BLB). This action is a safety procedure to ensure that train journeys remain safe,” said the Public Relations Manager of KAI Daop 5 Purwokerto, M. As’ad Habibuddin.
While the trains were stopped, KAI personnel inspected railway infrastructure across several affected tracks. The inspections included the condition of rails, bridges, tunnels, and operational support facilities.
The inspection results showed no damage to the railway infrastructure caused by the earthquake.
“Based on the inspection results, all railway infrastructure in the Daop 5 Purwokerto region has been declared safe, and no earthquake-related damage was found. Once all tracks were confirmed safe and fit for passage, train services were resumed,” he explained.
