21 killed in road crash

MEDAN, North Sumatra: Twenty-one people were killed when a bus
rammed into a truck which was parked on the Trans Sumatra Highway
in Labuhan Batu regency on Sunday.

The Berlian Baru bus was on its way from Rantau Prapat towards
Pematang Siantar when its driver lost control while avoiding
another bus coming in the opposite direction.

The bus smashed into the truck, which was hauling timber, and
was nearly shattered on impact, the Antara news agency reported,
quoting the police.

Twenty of the victims died on the spot and most of them were
mauled beyond recognition. The other victim died on the way to
the hospital.

Dozens others were also being treated for injuries. (emb)
