21 foreigners to be deported for various violations

JAKARTA (JP): City Police have asked for the deportation of a total of 21 foreigners of various nationalities for a variety of document violations here over a period of 10 months.

"They were sent to the Immigration Office for immediate deportation after being arrested in various locations in the city from June last year to March," Lt. Col. Irwan Syamsiar, Head of Foreigners Control at the Jakarta Police Headquarters, said here yesterday.

Another foreigner, whose nationality is still unknown, was sent to court in November after failing to show his identity cards, said Irwan, who was accompanied by City Police Spokesman Lt. Col. Iman Haryatna.

The 21 foreigners consist of nine Chinese people, two Canadians, two South Koreans, two Kazakhstans, one Pakistani, one Dutch, one French, one Singaporean, one Thai and one Somalian, Irwan said.

The nine Chineses from Guangdong province were arrested in October for having worked as street traders in the business district of downtown Kota with their visas, which were originally issued for only a social and cultural visit.

The illegal visitors, aged between 29 and 46 years old, were identified as Pang Hong Wei, Chien Muxian, Pan Jinqun, Pan Peicai, Lin Xiao, Chen Rui Liang, Jin Chude, Zheng Jingdiao and Jin Zhau Jhe.

The two Canadians, Trevor Adam Jeary, 19, and Mrs. Shirley Lynn Ostrowski, 45, were arrested in March for having overstayed living here for three years.

The first South Korean, identified as Bae Ki-wan, 41, of PT Hurumi Indah, was arrested in June last year for having worked without proper document.

The other South Korean, Seong Jik-pak, 33, was arrested in March for having worked only with a tourist visa.

The two Kazakhstans, Choutikaou Anderi, 29, and Choutikaou Surguei, 34, were nabbed in October for their expired visas.

The Pakistani, Waseem Waheed Faisal Abad, 32, was arrested in September, after he was found holding two passports.

The Dutch national, Lasse Scheider Lorentzen, and the French, Jusfiq Hajar, were arrested in November for having expired visa permits.

The Singaporean, Yong Choi Keng, 30, and the Thai, Dang Saravuth Veeradej, 44, were apprehended in January for working while they held visas for a business visit.

According to police data, Keng had been deported a week before he was arrested again.

The Somalian, Ahmad Dayib M. Hasan, 30, was arrested in March for possessing a phony British passport under the name of Hirani Hiralal Kanji.

According to Irwan, there are still many foreigners being eyed by city police detectives for having misused their documents.

"It's just a matter of time before we arrest them," Irwan promised.

Spokesman Iman said he hoped that all foreigners in Jakarta would abide by the regulations and obtain documents in accordance with their current jobs and status.

"Everybody must obey and respect the existing rules in the countries they visit," Iman said. (bsr)
