21 election monitors accredited by KPU

JAKARTA: The General Elections Commission (KPU) has accredited 21 monitors, including four teams of foreign monitors, for the country's first ever direct presidential election on July 5.

According to an official note signed by Valina Singka Subekti, the accredited foreign monitors included teams from the European Union, the National Democratic Institute, the Asia Foundation and the International Foundation for Election Systems.

The 17 local monitors include the Mustika Negara Foundation and the Indonesian Chapter of Transparency International.

More monitors are expected to register with the KPU before the election. --JP
