21 die in traffic crashes

SEMARANG: Central Java Police spokesman Let. Col. Bardja said Tuesday 21 people had died in 13 traffic accidents during the week after the Idul Fitri holiday. Thirty-three other people were injured in the incidents.

"The accidents happened in accident-prone areas including Semarang, Salatiga, Kendal, Brebes, Batang, Sragen, Surakarta, Klaten and Kebumen," he said.

Reckless driving was the main cause; drivers routinely ignored traffic lights and drove at high speeds. (har/01)
