209 Flights Cancelled: The Fate of Passengers at Soekarno-Hatta
The fate of passengers at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport has been impacted by a temporary suspension of flight operations caused by the potential spread of volcanic ash from the eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau.
Based on flight data for the period of 6 September 2026, between 01:30 WIB and 09:30 WIB, there were 209 scheduled aircraft movements at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport that were cancelled. This figure consists of 160 domestic flights, 39 international flights, and 10 cargo flights.
As an anticipatory measure for affected passengers, Soekarno-Hatta Airport has activated its Service Recovery Activation (SRA), providing food and light refreshments. The airport has also prepared buses at every terminal to support passenger mobility to hotels, in coordination with airlines.
Furthermore, several supporting facilities have been prepared to meet passenger needs during the temporary closure period. A command post has also been opened at Terminal 1B to facilitate coordination and the handling of operational conditions on the ground.
Regarding commercial services, management has coordinated with tenants within the terminals to ensure that service operations can continue 24 hours a day, ensuring that passenger needs can still be met during the temporary closure.
According to NOTAM Number A3341/26, flight operations at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport were temporarily closed on 6 September 2026 from 01:30 WIB to 09:30 WIB following the potential spread of volcanic ash from the eruptive activity of Mount Anak Krakatau.
This temporary closure is a mitigation step taken with flight safety as the primary consideration.
“The management of Soekarno-Hatta International Airport continues to coordinate with relevant stakeholders to ensure that operational handling and passenger services continue to run smoothly during these conditions,” said Yudistoriawan, Assistant Deputy of Communication & Legal at KC Bandara Internasional Soekarno-Hatta, in a written statement on Sunday (6/9/2026).
Soekarno-Hatta International Airport management is maintaining coordination with relevant stakeholders to manage the impact of the temporary closure, including flight schedule adjustments and passenger handling.
Operational recovery steps will be implemented gradually, while continuing to consider the development of volcanic ash conditions and flight safety aspects.
“We urge all service users to re-check their flight status and schedules through their respective airline’s official channels before heading to the airport. For airport information and further assistance, users can contact the InJourney Airports Contact Centre at 172,” he wrote.
