209 Flights at Soekarno-Hatta Affected by Anak Krakatau Volcanic Ash
The Ministry of Transportation has temporarily suspended flight activities at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport following the impact of volcanic ash from the eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau. A total of 209 flights have been affected.
“The latest paper test results from the Class I Meteorology Station Soekarno-Hatta (Gedemark 725 AMOS) between 06:05 WIB and 06:35 WIB also showed positive indications of volcanic ash distribution within the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport area. Consequently, the airport closure has been extended until Sunday (6/9) at 09:30 WIB, in accordance with NOTAM Number A3344/26 and NotamR A3341/26,” stated the Director General of Civil Aviation, Lukman F. Laisa, in a statement on Sunday (6/9/2026).
Lukman noted that the airport authorities are currently ensuring that all aircraft remaining overnight (RON) are in a safe condition. There are a total of 170 aircraft stationed in the apron area, with details including 66 aircraft at Terminal 1, 51 at Terminal 2, 49 at Terminal 3, and 4 at the cargo terminal.
“Based on the NOTAM regarding the airspace closure period from 01:30 to 09:30 WIB, a total of 209 flight movements were recorded as affected, with details provided per terminal. The total number of passengers affected during this closure period reached 22,798,” he explained.
The flight routes with the highest number of affected movements include:
Domestic Main: Makassar (UPG) with a total of 16 aircraft movements.
International Main: Singapore (SIN) with a total of 11 aircraft movements.
Furthermore, the details of the handling of international flight status include 16 cancellations, 7 delays, and 5 reschedulings for routes to Singapore (SIN), Hong Kong (HKG), Sydney (SYD), Seoul/Incheon (ICN), Doha (DOH), Amsterdam (AMS), and Kuala Lumpur (KUL). Meanwhile, for domestic flights, there were 4 cancellations and 1 diverted flight for routes to Lampung (TKG), Denpasar (DPS), and Surabaya (SUB).
“The primary focus of all airport staff and airlines at this time is to provide regular information, ensure the availability of waiting areas, and provide handling in accordance with established procedures,” said Lukman.
