204 High School Graduates in Gianyar to Undergo One-Year Training for Hotel Industry
A total of 204 high school and vocational school graduates in Gianyar are set to begin a one-year competency-based vocational training programme. The participants will undergo training at several international schools in Gianyar and are expected to be employed within the hospitality sector upon completion.
“The participants are recipients of assistance for educational contribution costs and competency-based training under a one-year programme,” stated the Regent of Gianyar, I Made Mahayastra, in a statement on Wednesday.
According to data from the Gianyar Manpower Office, the hundreds of graduates will be trained across nine educational and training institutions, including Bali Crystal College, Caribbean International School, Elizabeth International, Indiana Hospitality Management School, Monarch Gianyar, Sun Glory, Royal Bali College, and The Hotel International School. The curriculum will cover essential hospitality and restaurant skills, ranging from front office and housekeeping to food and beverages, pastry, and bakery.
Mahayastra emphasised the importance of confidence and skill demonstration, noting that regardless of one’s knowledge, one must be brave enough to showcase their abilities. He added that as the demand for professional, competent, and specialised labour continues to rise alongside global work trends, such training programmes are essential to meet these needs.
The two-term Regent also urged training institutions to strengthen coordination and cooperation with recruitment agencies and companies responsible for the placement of Indonesian migrant workers. Furthermore, he suggested expanding the scope of skills and education, noting that various sectors within tourism are now being integrated with artificial intelligence technology. “Training institutions must be able to adapt to industry needs to produce graduates who are competent, creative, and adaptive to modern developments,” he said.
The Head of the Gianyar Manpower Office, Gede Suardana Putra, noted that the participants are within the productive age bracket, aged 25 or below, and belong to underprivileged communities. “The beneficiaries are graduates of high school or equivalent who are part of the productive workforce, aged a maximum of 25, and reside in Gianyar Regency and require government assistance,” Suardana explained.
While the Gianyar Regency government programme initially had capacity for 400 people, 394 individuals applied. Following a selection process, some were disqualified due to exceeding the age limit, non-residency in Gianyar, or choosing to withdraw to pursue higher education. Following a final selection stage involving home visits, 204 beneficiaries were officially appointed.
