The General Elections Commission (KPU) has allocated a budget of IDR 1.4 trillion for the initial stages of the 2029 General Election, scheduled to begin next year. The budget is listed in the KPU’s indicative ceiling for 2027, as reported during a meeting with Commission II of the House of Representatives (DPR RI) at the Parliamentary Complex in Senayan, Central Jakarta, on Monday, 15 June 2026. KPU Chairman Mochammad Afifuddin explained that the budget of over IDR 1.4 trillion is required for various activities in the 2029 election stages, from planning and registration to candidacy. The indicative budget for 2027 allocates IDR 339.916 billion for programme and budget planning, as well as the drafting of regulations for election administration. These planning activities include drafting regulations, public outreach, technical training, election technical guidance, strengthening IT support for elections, selecting members of Provincial and Regency/City KPU offices, and preparing logistics for the election stages. Afifuddin stated that the budget for the registration and verification of election participants amounts to IDR 464,347,213, typically covering the registration of political parties intending to contest the 2029 election. Meanwhile, the KPU has allocated IDR 187.5 billion for the formation of ad hoc election bodies. This activity involves the establishment of ad hoc election bodies by the working units of Regency/City KPU offices along with their operational support. Additionally, the KPU has budgeted a total of IDR 239.3 billion for updating voter data and compiling the voter list. In this stage, the budget allocation will be used for implementing voter data updates by voter data officers appointed by the KPU, procuring update materials, publicising the update method, covering officers’ honoraria, and the process of recording and announcing the data to the public through available media. Afifuddin further detailed that the budget for determining the number of seats and electoral districts is approximately IDR 164,775,163, while IDR 33,217,602 has been allocated for the nomination stages of the president and vice president, as well as candidates for the DPR, DPD, Provincial DPRD, and Regency/City DPRD. During the election participant nomination stage, the budget will fund preparatory activities, administrative checks, field verification, and final sample checks on nomination administration conducted by KPU working units, Provincial KPU, and Regency/City KPU offices as part of validating nomination documents.
