2027 Hajj Costs Expected to be Released Next Week

The Minister of Hajj and Umｷ️ Umrah, Mochamad Irfan Yusuf, expressed hope that the working committees (Panja) for Hajj from both the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) and the government will reach an agreement on the scale of Hajj costs within the next week.

“The DPR Hajj Working Committee and our Hajj Working Committee are in continuous discussion, calculating to ensure we establish the most appropriate figure. As of today, it is not yet 100% complete, remaining at around 85%,” Irfan Yusuf stated in Jakarta on Monday.

Commonly known as Gus Irfan, he noted that discussions regarding the Hajj cost magnitude are ongoing within the working committee to achieve a fair figure. He hopes these discussions will be finalised promptly so that the agreed amount to be paid by pilgrims can be established in the near future. “God willing, within the next week, we will have an agreement on the figure to be paid by pilgrims, which we will then submit to the President,” he said.

Certainty regarding Hajj costs will assist pilgrims on the current waiting list in preparing their final payments. Additionally, the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah can prepare other technical aspects both domestically and abroad.

Previously, the government proposed an average Hajj Operational Cost (BPIH) for 2027 of Rp107,340,172.02 per person. This composition includes a pilgrim-paid portion (Bipih) of Rp42,936,068.81 (40%) and a benefit value (nilai manfaat) of Rp64,404,103.21 (60%).

Furthermore, Gus Irfan reminded prospective pilgrims to prepare themselves thoroughly before departing for the Holy Land, emphasising that they should prepare not only their finances but also their physical and mental health. “I ask pilgrims to first prepare physically and mentally, as well as financially,” he said, noting that physical readiness is crucial as the Hajj pilgrimage requires peak physical condition.

To address challenges such as rising service tariffs in Saudi Arabia and currency fluctuations, the government is refining efficiency formulas for the 2027 Hajj cost calculations. The proposal will undergo further discussion by Commission VIII following the establishment of the 2026 Hajj Working Committee.

The government projects a new BPIH scheme for 2027, targeting a 60% subsidy from the BPKH benefit value to alleviate the direct financial burden on pilgrims. Despite expected increases in certain operational components, the government ensures that the 2027 costs will not overburden pilgrims. To assist, the BPKH has proposed an instalment scheme for final payments so that pilgrims do not need to sell assets or incur debt when the payment period arrives.

The Chairman of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI), KH. Abd. Moqsith Ghazali, noted that the physical and financial readiness of pilgrims must be balanced to maintain health during the pilgrimage. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah plans to tighten health screenings for 2027 after Saudi Arabia blocked 14 million riyals due to alleged violations regarding pilgrim health insurance.
