2027 Eid Homecoming: Logistics Trucks from Java to be Diverted to Celukan Bawang
The Bali Provincial Government is preparing a logistics pier at Celukan Bawang Port, Buleleng, to manage the influx of travellers during the 2027 Eid al-Fitr homecoming period. The pier is targeted to be operational by next year’s homecoming period to anticipate congestion on the Gilimanuk-Denpasar route.
Governor of Bali, Wayan Koster, stated that the logistics pier is being prepared by PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry (Persero). Eventually, a portion of logistics trucks from Ketapang Port, Banyuwangi, will be directed directly to Celukan Bawang Port via sea routes.
“It should be operational by the Eid homecoming period next year. This is to anticipate the recurrence of traffic congestion,” explained Wayan Koster on Monday (21/9/202pend).
In addition to Celukan Bawang, the Bali Provincial Government is also preparing the development of sea logistics routes through Sangsit Port in Buleleng, Amed in Karangasem, and Pesinggahan in Klungkung.
Koster noted that the Bali Provincial Government has coordinated with the Minister of Transportation to ensure that the development of Sangsit and Amed receives budget support from the State Budget (APBN). Meanwhile, land acquisition for these two locations is being prepared for 2027.
As for the development of Pesinggahan Port, it will be carried out through private investment. The project is currently in the feasibility study stage.
“Once all of these are operational—Celukan Bawang, Sangsit, Amed, and Pesinggahan—logistics trucks will be diverted and will no longer all pass through the Gilimanuk to Mengwi route,” he added.
The sea routes are also designed to support the development of marine tourism in Bali.
Previously, Koster mentioned that the development of Celukan Bawang Port, Buleleng, has entered the tender process. The port is intended to feature a dedicated logistics terminal to reduce the movement of heavy goods vehicles via land routes.
Koster stated that the development of Celukan Bawang Port is targeted for completion by the end of 2027. He confirmed having met directly with the Minister of Transportation to discuss the plan.
“Furthermore, we will further develop Celukan Bawang Port. The tender process for the development of Celukan Bawang Port is currently commencing,” said Koster during his speech at Bulfest on Tuesday (18/8/2026).
According to Koster, the dedicated logistics terminal will allow logistics trucks from Ketapang, Banyuwangi, to reach Celukan Bawang via sea routes. Under this scheme, heavy vehicles will no longer need to pass through Gilimanuk Port and Bali’s land routes.
