2027 Eid Holiday Schedule: Potential for 10-Day Long Break
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The 2027 Eid al-Fitr period can now be planned following the government’s determination of the national holiday and collective leave calendar for next year. This designation serves as a guide for the public wishing to organise homecoming travel, holidays, or family gatherings.
The government has established 18 national holidays and 8 days of collective leave for 2027 through a Joint Ministerial Decree (SKB) involving the Minister of Religious Affairs, the Minister of Manpower, and the Minister of State Apparatus Empowerment and Bureaucratic Reform.
Eid al-Fitr 2027 Schedule
Based on the decree, Eid al-Fitr 1448 Hijriah is set for Wednesday and Thursday, 10–11 March 2027, as national holidays. Meanwhile, the government has designated collective leave for Eid al-Fitr on Tuesday, 9 March, Friday, 12 March, and Monday, 15 March 2027.
Consequently, the sequence of holidays related to Eid 2027 is as follows:
Monday, 8 March 2027: Nyepi Day (Hindu New Year)
Tuesday, 9 March 2027: Eid al-Fitr collective leave
Wednesday, 10 March 2027: Eid al-Fitr national holiday
Thursday, 11 March 2027: Eid al-Fitr national holiday
Friday, 12 March 2027: Eid al’Fitr collective leave
Saturday, 13 March 2027: Weekend
Sunday, 14 March 2027: Weekend
Monday, 15 March 2027: Eid al-Fitr collective leave
This arrangement provides the public with the opportunity to enjoy a continuous long holiday of up to 10 days, if counting the weekends before and after the Nyepi and Eid sequences. This period begins on Saturday, 6 March 2027, and ends on Monday, 15 March 2027, encompassing weekends, Nyepi, Eid national holidays, and Eid collective leave.
However, the number of effective holidays for each worker may vary, as the implementation of collective leave depends on the specific regulations of each institution or company.
2027 Collective Leave List
In addition to Eid al-Fitr, the government has set eight days of collective leave throughout 2027. These include Friday, 5 February for Lunar New Year 2578 Kongzili; 9, 12, and 15 March for Eid al-Fitr 1448 Hijriah; Thursday, 25 March for Good Friday; Tuesday, 18 May for Eid al-Adha 1448 Hijriah; Wednesday, 19 May for Vesak Day 2571 BE; and Friday, 24 December for Christmas.
Overall, the government has established 18 national holidays for 2027. Aside from Eid al-Fitr, other red dates include New Year 2027 on 1 January, Isra Mi’raj on 5 January, Lunar New Year on 6 February, Nyepi on 8 March, Good Friday on 26 March, Easter on 28 March, Labour Day on 1 May, Ascension Day on 6 May, Eid al-Adha on 17 May, Vesak Day on 20 May, Pancasila Day on 1 June, Islamic New Year on 6 June, Prophet Muhammad’s Birthday on 15 August, Indonesian Independence Day on 17 August, Christmas on 25 December, and Isra Mi’raj on 26 December.
Is the Eid date final?
Although the Joint Ministerial Decree lists 10 and 11 March 2027 as the national holidays for Eid al-Fitr 1448 Hijriah, the government noted that the official determination of the dates for 1 Ramadan, Eid al-Fitr, and Eid al-Adha will still be made through a Decree from the Minister of Religious Affairs. This means the public can use the decree as a planning reference, but the official religious holidays remain subject to the Minister of Religious Affairs’ decision according to the established mechanism.
2027 Eid Homecoming Preparations
With the sequence of holidays being close to Nyepi, those planning homecoming (mudik) or travel can begin calculating departure and return times well in advance. The government stated that the preparation of the holiday and collective leave calendar considers various factors, including the smooth execution of religious activities, the position of holidays relative to weekends, and the needs of the public during the Eid homecoming period. With this schedule, the 2027 Eid holiday has the potential to be one of the longest holiday sequences of the year, particularly for those combining national holidays, collective leave, and weekends.
