2027 Budget Meeting: DPR Urges National Police to Purchase CCTV and Bodycams

A member of House Commission III, Safaruddin, has requested that the Indonesian National Police (Polri) utilise its budget to purchase CCTV, bodycams, and tactical vehicle sensors. The request was made during a meeting between Commission III and Deputy Chief of Police Commissioner General Dedi Prasetyo at the Parliament Complex in Central Jakarta on Wednesday, 17 June 2026. The PDIP politician noted that several regional police departments still lack the budget for CCTV procurement. “Perhaps if there are units already using laptops, they just need to add CCTV and bodycams for field operations,” Safaruddin said during the meeting. He added that bodycams should be purchased for officers to use when making arrests, noting that the equipment is mandated under the new Criminal Code. “So when an officer makes an arrest, our personnel must be equipped with bodycams so there is no more dispute over whether violence occurred; we can simply play back what was recorded,” Safaruddin stated. Earlier, Dedi proposed an additional budget of Rp66.1 trillion for 2027 for his institution. He explained that the police had received an indicative ceiling of Rp118 trillion from the Ministry of Finance and Bappenas, but the total was still not ideal for the force’s needs. “Compared to the ideal budget proposal for the National Police for Fiscal Year 2027 of Rp178 trillion, only 66.4 percent has been met,” Dedi said. Factoring in rising fuel prices and the rupiah’s exchange rate against the US dollar, he stated the ideal budget requirement had risen to Rp184 trillion. “Therefore, when compared to the Indicative Ceiling for Fiscal Year 2027, there is still a shortfall of Rp66.1 trillion,” Dedi added.
