2026 TKA Results for Primary and Secondary Schools: Maths Scores Significantly Below Indonesian Language
Results of the 2026 Basic Education Academic Competency Test (TKA) announced on Tuesday (26/5) revealed a stark gap between students’ literacy and numeracy skills in primary and secondary schools across Indonesia. Average TKA scores for SD and SMP showed Indonesian language scores around 60, while mathematics scores were between 40 and 43.
Head of the Basic and Secondary Education Policy Agency at the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Toni Toharudin, stated that the 2026 TKA results are a signal that cannot be ignored. ‘This is a crucial signal that strengthening logical thinking, mathematical reasoning, and problem-solving skills must continue to be reinforced in daily learning processes at all educational institutions,’ he said at the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education office in Central Jakarta on Tuesday (26/5).
Rahmawati, Head of the Education Assessment Centre at the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, detailed the national average TKA scores: 60.14 for Indonesian language and 43.41 for mathematics in primary schools. For secondary schools, Indonesian language averaged slightly higher at 60.83, while mathematics was lower at 40.34 compared to primary level.
The disparity is also evident in the number of students achieving perfect scores. 4,509 primary students scored 100 in Indonesian language, whereas only 814 achieved full marks in mathematics.
Rahmawati added that Indonesian language scores in primary and secondary schools were even higher than those in senior high schools and vocational schools, partly due to longer TKA socialisation in basic education, leading to better student preparedness.
TKA results also showed differences between public and private schools. At primary level, private schools outperformed public schools in both subjects, with average Indonesian language scores of 62.85 versus 59.17 for public schools, and mathematics scores of 46.10 versus 42.45. However, for secondary schools, public schools slightly led with Indonesian language scores of 61.23 against 59.05 for private schools, and mathematics scores of 40.65 versus 39.87.
‘When it comes to secondary schools, public schools perform better but the difference is small. However, at primary level, the opposite is true—private schools score higher with a wider gap,’ Rahmawati explained.
The Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education announced the results of the Basic and Secondary Education Academic Competency Test simultaneously on Tuesday (26/5) at 1:00 PM WIB. The TKA results can be accessed via the government’s official website.
Deputy Chairman of the House of Representatives’ Commission X, Lalu Hadrian Irfani, stated that the 2025 Academic Competency Test results could serve as a comprehensive evaluation tool for national education quality, calling the results a ‘warning’.
The results of the Academic Competency Test (TKA) for primary and secondary schools were announced on 24 May 2026. Access to scores and certificates can be obtained through the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education.
