Jakarta (ANTARA) - Holding a driving licence (SIM) appropriate to one’s vehicle type is an obligation for every driver in Indonesia. Beyond carrying the licence whilst driving, vehicle owners must also ensure the document remains valid.

For motorcyclists, the relevant licence is the SIM C. This document has an expiry date and must be renewed before it lapses, so that the holder does not have to go through the process of obtaining a new licence.

In 2026, the non-tax state revenue (PNBP) fee for renewing a SIM C has been set at Rp75,000. However, this is not the total expenditure an applicant must prepare for.

The renewal process also involves a health examination, a psychological test, and an insurance fee. Once all these components are counted, the total cost can reach around Rp260,000.

Breakdown of 2026 SIM C renewal costs

The following is the breakdown of costs to know before renewing a motorbike licence in 2026.

  1. Licence issuance fee

The issuance fee for a SIM C, SIM CI, and SIM CII is Rp75,000 each. This is the PNBP payable during the licence renewal process.

  1. Health examination

Applicants must also undergo a physical health examination, costing Rp35,000. The examination includes checks on blood pressure, eyesight, and basic physical condition, all of which form part of the licence renewal requirements.

  1. Psychological test fee

In addition to the health examination, applicants must fulfil the psychological test requirement. There are two options available.

For an online psychological test, the fee is Rp57,500. The result is valid for six months and can be used for online licence renewal for all licence classes.

Meanwhile, applicants who opt to take the psychological test in person at a Satpas or mobile SIM service point are charged Rp100,000.

  1. Insurance fee

Another component listed in the renewal cost is accident insurance at Rp50,000.

The renewal cost is therefore not limited to the Rp75,000 licence issuance tariff.

If the applicant chooses to take the psychological test in person at the venue, at a cost of Rp100,000, the calculation is as follows:

  • Licence issuance: Rp75,000

  • Health examination: Rp35,000

  • Psychological test: Rp100,000

  • Insurance: Rp50,000

  • Total: Rp260,000

This means motorcyclists should prepare roughly Rp260,000 if all cost components apply during the SIM C renewal process.

Meanwhile, choosing the online psychological test at Rp57,500 brings the total down to around Rp217,500, assuming the other cost components remain the same.

Do not wait until the licence expires

Licence holders should not wait until the validity period ends before renewing. Renewal can be carried out before the expiry date, so drivers always hold a valid document when on the road.

If the licence has already expired, in certain circumstances the applicant may have to go through the process of obtaining a new licence under the prevailing regulations. Checking the expiry date and arranging renewal early is therefore the more practical step.

For motorcyclists, knowing the cost breakdown from the outset is also important so that sufficient funds can be prepared. The Rp75,000 tariff often cited as the SIM C renewal fee is thus not the full amount an applicant must pay.
