2026 Regional Kalimantan Outstanding Local Government Awards to Evaluate Four Categories
The Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri) is once again organising the 2026 Local Government Awards for the Kalimantan region. Four categories will be assessed during this event: the implementation of the 3-million-house programme, access to and quality of healthcare services, access to education services, and waste management and environmental sustainability.
The Institute of Home Affairs Governance (IPDN) has been appointed as the organiser for the Kalimantan region. The event is scheduled to take place in Balikpapan, East Kalimantan, on Thursday (3/8).
IPDN Rector Halilul Khairi stated that these four assessment categories are vital as they pertain to the basic needs of the community. “Education is very important, healthcare is very important; both are basic services. Furthermore, waste management is essential for building a good civilisation. Meanwhile, housing is one of the fundamental needs alongside clothing and food,” Halilul said recently on CNN Indonesia TV.
Halilul added that in addition to the basic needs of the people, these four areas are also presidential priorities. Consequently, their achievement must be driven by all local governments in accordance with their respective authorities.
He continued that as the Ministry of Home Affairs serves as the mentor and supervisor of local governments, the success of these administrations is part of the Ministry’s responsibility. He noted that this represents a strategic role for the Ministry.
Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian has reportedly requested a supervisory mechanism that focuses not only on sanctions but also on providing recognition for outstanding local governments. “The Minister of Home Affairs is not only focused on supervision through sanctions; the Minister also wants the Ministry to provide awards,” he said.
“The principle of reward and punishment applies; there should not only be punishment, but there must also be recognition,” he added.
For this year, Halilul noted that similar events are being held across six regional areas. IPDN has been tasked with the Kalimantan region, following similar events previously held for the Sumatra and Java-Bali regions.
