Acting Mayor of Batam, Li Claudia Chandra, urged all segments of society to strengthen unity and maintain harmony amid diversity. She emphasised this as Indonesia’s key strength in facing contemporary challenges.

The call was made during the 2026 Batam City Pancasila Birth Anniversary Flag Ceremony held at Dataran Engku Putri, Batam Centre, on Monday, 1 June 2026. In her speech, she stressed that Pancasila’s values must consistently guide community, national, and state life.

“Let us continue to strengthen unity, uphold harmony in diversity, and implement Pancasila’s values in daily life to realise a prosperous, just, and dignified Indonesia,” said Li Claudia.

She noted that the Pancasila Birth Anniversary is not merely an annual ceremonial event. This occasion is the right moment to reaffirm commitment to the noble values underpinning national life. Pancasila is viewed as the cornerstone for preserving national unity amid evolving global dynamics.

“Pancasila: Unifier of the Nation, Foundation of World Peace”

This year’s theme reflects Pancasila’s crucial role as a guide in confronting global challenges and as a foundation for Indonesia to contribute to sustainable world peace.

During the event, Li Claudia, who also serves as Batam Deputy Mayor, read a written address from the Head of the Pancasila Ideology Development Agency (BPIP) of Indonesia, Yudian Wahyudi. The address highlighted Indonesia’s resilience in maintaining unity despite comprising 17,000 islands and hundreds of ethnic groups.

“Amid global uncertainty and fragmentation threats, Indonesia remains an example of how diversity can be united under a strong national bond,” she said while reading the BPIP’s message.

Furthermore, Pancasila is described as the nation’s moral anchor in facing technological disruptions and global geopolitical dynamics. With Pancasila as its foundation, Indonesia is believed capable of maintaining national stability while actively contributing to global order.

“Pancasila must be present in every step of development and serve as a shared spirit in achieving societal welfare and regional and national progress,” she concluded.
