2026 Outstanding Regional Government Awards to Recognise Access to Educational Services
The Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri), in partnership with detikcom, is organising an awards event titled the 2026 Outstanding Regional Government Awards. One of the featured categories focuses on Resident Access to Educational Services.
This commitment aligns with the 6th ‘Asta Cita’ of President Prabowo Subianto, which emphasises the importance of education in the development towards ‘Indonesia Emas’ (Golden Indonesia). Education serves as the primary foundation for improving the quality of human resources and driving regional progress. The commitment and innovation of local governments are key to overcoming geographical and economic barriers, ensuring every child receives an equal right to learn.
The Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, Ribka Haluk, stated that according to Law Number 23 of 2014 concerning Regional Government, specifically Article 12, paragraph (1), education is a mandatory government affair related to basic services. Therefore, local governments have a responsibility to ensure every citizen obtains their right to educational services in a fair, equitable, and inclusive manner.
“Education is a right for every citizen, including those from vulnerable groups. This includes people with disabilities and those living in pockets of extreme poverty,” Ribka noted recently.
Recognising the crucial role of local governments in expanding educational accessibility, the Ministry of Home Affairs will evaluate regional government performance across several basic services directly related to educational services for the entire community. The assessment focuses on various crucial indicators, such as the teacher distribution index, the ratio of study groups per classroom, Expected Years of Schooling (HLS), Net Enrolment Ratio (APM), and the proportion of students proficient in literacy skills as per the National Assessment.
The awards ceremony is expected to serve not only as a form of appreciation but also as a motivator for other regional governments to continuously improve the quality and equality of educational access to produce a superior future generation.
The series of events for the 2026 Outstanding Regional Government Awards (Batch II, Sulawesi Region) will be broadcast live via streaming on detikcom and detikSulsel on Friday, 18 September 2026, at 19:00 WITA.
