2026 Outstanding Regional Government Awards: Sigi, Polewali Mandar, and Takalar Excel in Inflation Control
The Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri) has named Sigi Regency, Central Sulawesi, as the first-place winner in the Inflation Control category for regencies during the 2026 Regional Government Awards for the Sulawesi region. Polewali Mandar Regency, West Sulawesi, and Takalar Regency, South Sulawesi, achieved second and third place, respectively.
The awards were announced during an awards ceremony held by the Ministry of Home Affairs in collaboration with Kompas.com at the Claro Hotel, Kendari, South East Sulawesi, on Friday, 29 May 2026. The Inflation Control category is awarded to local governments deemed capable of maintaining price stability and public purchasing power through measurable and sustainable programmes. The assessment criteria included inflation control performance, reporting quality, budgetary support, and the effectiveness of implemented programmes.
In addition to inflation control, awards were also presented for categories including unemployment reduction, creative financing, poverty alleviation, and stunting reduction. Tito, representing the organisers, stated that the awards are part of the government’s effort to encourage regions to continuously improve the quality of development and public services. He noted that the awards serve to motivate regional heads.
Tito explained that the 2026 Outstanding Regional Government Awards are organised regionally to ensure more proportional competition and to provide greater opportunities for all regions. This scheme allows regions with different fiscal capacities to compete more fairly. The Sulawesi region is the fourth region to participate in the 2026 awards series, following previous ceremonies in Sumatra, Kalimantan, and Maluku and Nusa Tenggara. It is expected that this event will encourage local governments to strengthen inflation control programmes to safeguard price stability and public purchasing power. The awards will continue across various regions until November 2026, offering further opportunities for regions that have not yet been recognised.
