2026 Mudik Peak Sets Record: 270,000 Vehicles Pass in One Day
PT Jasa Marga (Persero) Tbk has recorded a new milestone in mudik traffic volume in Indonesia. This all-time high occurred during the peak of the Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah mudik, which fell on Wednesday, 18 March 2026.
Jasa Marga’s President Director, Rivan A. Purwantono, revealed that this surge in vehicles surpassed all previous years’ records.
The peak mudik traffic volume served by Jasa Marga reached 270,315 vehicles, an increase of 98.3% from normal levels and 4.6% from the 2025 Eid peak. This figure is the cumulative traffic flow from four main toll gates: Cikupa Gate (westbound), Ciawi Gate (southbound), and Cikampek and Kalihurip Utama Gates (eastbound).
Not only through these four main toll gates, the company also recorded the highest ever traffic flow to the Trans Java Toll Road, reaching 175,754 vehicles.
“This figure is up 6% compared to last year’s mudik peak,” Rivan stated in an official release on Friday (20/3).
According to Rivan, although the number of vehicles passing through Jasa Marga Group’s toll roads reached a record high, traffic conditions were well-controlled due to effective traffic engineering that alleviated congestion.
“Traffic density was observed on the MBZ Flyover and the lower Jakarta-Cikampek Toll Road,” he added.
To anticipate the vehicle surge, Jasa Marga, in collaboration with the Police, implemented traffic engineering such as contraflow from one lane to three lanes, up to the implementation of a national one-way system from KM 70 to KM 414. The vehicle volume on these two sections was recorded as the highest in their operational history.
Rivan also explained that, according to the prepared traffic engineering scenario, density was targeted to be maximally cleared within 1x12 hours. By Thursday at 11:00 WIB, traffic conditions were reported to have returned to smooth with average vehicle speeds back to normal.
“Jasa Marga will continue to optimise the use of technology as a decision support system to support traffic engineering decisions made by the Police based on the latest field conditions,” he said.
In addition, Jasa Marga urged drivers of vehicles with three or more axles to comply with the provisions of the Joint Decree (SKB) of the Director General of Land Transportation of the Ministry of Transportation, the National Police Traffic Corps Chief, and the Director General of Highway Development of the Ministry of Public Works.
The SKB dated 5 February 2026 on Traffic Regulation and Crossing Arrangements During the 2026/1447H Eid Mudik and Return Flow Period, regarding restrictions on goods vehicle operations, including not passing during designated times.
Ahead of the return flow period, Jasa Marga urged the public to take advantage of the toll tariff discount that will be applied during the return flow period from 26 March 2026 at 00:00 WIB until 27 March 2026 at 00:00 WIB. The public can also obtain the latest traffic information through the Travoy Application, Call Center 133, and others.
Jasa Marga recorded an increase in traffic volume in five Regional Nusantara Toll Road sections from H-10 to H-4 of Eid 2026.
Jasa Marga recorded 812,342 vehicles exiting Jabotabek from H-10 to H-6 of Eid 2026. The increase was driven by toll tariff discounts and the Work From Anywhere policy.
Jasamarga Metropolitan Tollroad Regional Division recorded an increase in traffic volume in several toll road sections in the Jabodetabek and West Java areas starting from H-10 to H-6.
On the first day of Operation Ketupat 2026, PT Jasa Marga recorded that some vehicles had begun leaving Jakarta via toll roads.
About 14% of vehicles, or around 285,000 units, were recorded to have left Jakarta on the first day of Operation Ketupat 2026, according to data provided by PT Jasa Marga.
The number of vehicles leaving Jakarta continued to increase during the 2025 Eid al-Fitr mudik. A total of 160,021 vehicles were recorded leaving Jakarta and its surroundings on H-6 of Eid.
