PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) Daerah Operasi 8 Surabaya has recorded high passenger mobility during the 2026 Idul Adha long holiday period. As of 10:00 WIB on Friday, 29 May, stations under KAI Daop 8 Surabaya are projected to serve 33,795 passengers, comprising 16,218 departing and 17,577 arriving travellers.

The number is expected to rise further by evening as train schedules continue during the holiday period.

Mahendro Trang Bawono, KAI Daop 8 Surabaya’s Public Relations Manager, stated that the strong public interest demonstrates that trains remain the preferred mode of transport due to their safety, comfort, punctuality, and avoidance of traffic congestion.

“During the Idul Adha long holiday, people are using the time to travel with family and relatives. KAI Daop 8 Surabaya is committed to providing safe, comfortable, and punctual travel services for all passengers,” Mahendro said in Surabaya on Friday, 29 May.

Despite increased passenger mobility, KAI Daop 8 Surabaya confirms tickets for various routes and departure dates remain available until the end of the holiday. Passengers are urged to book promptly via the Access by KAI app, kai.id website, or other official sales channels for a more comfortable and convenient journey.

“We advise the public to plan their trips early and book tickets in advance. Currently, seats are still available for several popular train services from Daop 8 Surabaya,” Mahendro added.

To ensure smooth operations during the holiday, KAI Daop 8 Surabaya is ensuring optimal train services, from station operations, facility readiness, to safety and security aspects.

KAI Daop 8 Surabaya also advises passengers to arrive early at stations, double-check departure schedules, and safeguard personal belongings during travel.

The presence of illegal level crossings and those not meeting safety standards poses a high risk of accidents and disruptions to train services.

As of April 2026, there are 435 level crossings in the operational area of KAI Daop 8 Surabaya.

Although the incident occurred outside Daop 8’s operational area, KAI has taken comprehensive preventive measures to ensure safety.
