2026 Eid Transportation: Minister of Transportation Urges Airlines Not to Lower Safety Standards
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwagandhi reminded that in the near future, there will be an increase in passenger movement and flight frequency during the peak of the Eid al-Fitr homecoming and return flow.
The Minister of Transportation asked airlines not to lower safety standards.
Airworthiness inspections, crew readiness, technical documents, operational procedures, and even human factors must be ensured to meet standards.
“During Eid, operational pressure will increase. At this point, safety discipline will be tested; there must be no compromise on safety in facing the peak season,” said Dudy in an official statement on Thursday (February 26, 2026).
According to the Minister of Transportation, flight safety is a strategic priority for the government, not just a regulatory obligation, but also a mandate of the state.
The Minister of Transportation emphasized that without safety, there will be no connectivity, economic growth, and public trust.
This means that safety is the foundation of national development.
If safety is disrupted, then the distribution of logistics, tourism, and investment will also be disrupted, and Indonesia’s reputation in the world will also be affected.
“Therefore, flight safety is part of a major national development strategy. Safety must be the top priority of the national aviation industry,” said the Minister of Transportation.
The safety system is also one form of the country’s reputation in transportation safety.
The aviation industry is a symbol of technology, professionalism, and high safety standards.
Therefore, flight safety should not be seen as just a technical issue, but as a strategic issue that concerns the credibility of the nation.
“Safety is not just about fulfilling regulations, but a moral commitment and legal responsibility. Every company policy must be based on the principle that safety is the top priority,” said Minister of Transportation Dudy.
Director General of Air Transportation Lukman F. Laisa added that the highest-ranking leaders of airlines have direct responsibility for the effectiveness of the safety system in their organization.
He emphasized the importance of an open reporting culture and data-based risk management to prevent potential incidents during the Eid transportation period.
“Safety is not just the responsibility of the regulator or safety manager. Safety is the direct responsibility of the highest-ranking leaders of the company. Every business and operational decision must be based on safety considerations,” said Lukman.
