2026 Eid Homecoming Traffic Rises 4.62%, Government Anticipates Return Surge
JAKARTA – The 2026 Eid homecoming traffic recorded an increase compared to the previous year.
The Head of the Indonesian National Police Traffic Corps, Inspector General Agus Suryonugroho, stated that overall, this year’s homecoming traffic remained under control despite the rise in vehicle volume.
“So indeed, this year is quite different because there is an increase in homecoming traffic of 270,000 compared to 2025. There is a 4.62 per cent increase,” Agus said during a press conference at the Metro Jaya Regional Police Headquarters on Friday (20/3/2026).
Along with this increase, the government is anticipating potential density during the return flow.
The Director General of Land Transportation at the Ministry of Transportation, Aan Suhanan, said that the WFA policy is being provided from 25 to 27 March 2026 so that the public can arrange their return travel times to their hometowns.
“The government has provided Work From Anywhere (WFA) on the 25th, 26th, and 27th, so all people planning to return are urged to do so on those dates,” Aan said at the Metro Jaya Regional Police Headquarters on Friday.
In addition to the return flow, the government is also wary of potential vehicle surges due to public mobility for tourism after Eid.
“There is still ahead what we will face, namely tourist flow, because on H+1, Indonesian people will utilise the Eid holiday for tourism, agglomeration. This has also been reported from all Regional Police Chiefs and has been prepared,” he said.
According to him, various anticipatory measures are being taken to reduce vehicle volume and maintain traffic smoothness during the Eid period.
