2026 Eid al-Adha Holiday Schedule: Are 28-29 May Shared Leave Days?
The government has designated Thursday, 28 May 2026 as a shared leave day for Eid al-Adha 1447 Hijriah. However, Friday, 29 May 2026 is not a shared leave day and remains a working day. Nevertheless, the public could enjoy a six-day holiday until Monday, 1 June 2026 if they take additional leave on Friday, 29 May. The holiday and shared leave arrangements are outlined in the Joint Ministerial Decree (SKB) No. 1497/2025, No. 2/2025, and No. 5/2025. Previously, the government, via the Ministry of Religious Affairs, confirmed that Eid al-Adha 1447 Hijriah falls on Wednesday, 27 May 2026. “Based on calculations and moon-sighting reports, 1 Zulhijah 1447 Hijriah falls on Monday, 18 May 2026, therefore Eid al-Adha is on Wednesday, 27 May 2026,” said Religious Affairs Minister Nasaruddin Umar in Jakarta on Sunday. The government has declared Thursday, 28 May 2026 as the shared leave day for Eid al-Adha. This means the public will have two consecutive days off: Friday, 29 May 2026 remains a regular working day and is not a national shared leave day. However, many workers may take additional leave on this day to extend the weekend. With this arrangement, the public could enjoy a nearly week-long holiday. This consistent decision allows the majority of Indonesia’s Muslim community to celebrate the Feast of Sacrifice in unison. The government, through the Ministry of Religious Affairs, confirmed Eid al-Adha 1447 Hijriah falls on Wednesday, 27 May 2026. The decision was made during the moon-sighting meeting for the start of Zulhijah 1447 Hijriah held on Sunday, 17 May 2026.
