2026 Crisis Already Felt in Indonesia, Prices Soar
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - The rise in smartphone prices due to the AI chip shortage is impacting many vendors globally, including in Indonesia. Motorola has also spoken out on the matter.
“Motorola is reviewing, I emphasise that Motorola sees the problem. This is a real issue in society and faced by every brand in Indonesia,” said Country Head of Motorola Indonesia, Bagus Prasetyo, during the launch of the Motorola Edge 70 Fusion and Motorola Signature in Jakarta on Monday (20/4/2026).
He explained that Motorola has strong support regarding this issue thanks to Lenovo. The company is known as the parent of Motorola.
Lenovo is described as a large IT company and supplier to Motorola. So far, his company has not been impacted by the reduced supply.
“As we know, Lenovo is an IT-based company, provider of servers, laptops, manufacturing, and an exceptionally large database provider. So far, we have not felt or been directly infected by the reduced supply,” he explained.
Bagus also highlighted the issue of smartphone selling prices. He said his side does not deny price adjustments.
However, he did not explain which products are affected by the price adjustments and how much. Bagus only said that supply fulfilment focuses on the AI industry.
“And certainly, supporting industries will follow what is in the current market,” said Bagus.
