2025 Report | PT Vale Indonesia Maintains Growth Momentum Amidst Challenges
The year 2025 has served as a period confirming the resilience of PT Vale Indonesia in facing the dynamics of the global nickel industry. Amidst commodity price pressures, increasing market competition, and demands for more sustainable mining practices, the company managed to maintain solid operational performance, record positive profitability, and strengthen corporate governance and the implementation of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles.
According to their report, from an operational perspective, PT Vale showed sustained production capacity. Throughout 2025, the company produced 15.92 million tonnes of nickel ore, which serves as the primary foundation for the ongoing downstream development processes. From this volume, most of the ore was processed into value-added products, specifically 72,027 tonnes of nickel matte, while nickel matte shipment volumes reached 73,093 tonnes. Meanwhile, nickel ore sales were recorded at 2.32 million tonnes, reflecting the company’s strategy increasingly oriented towards increasing added value through domestic mineral processing.
This performance indicates that the company’s focus is no longer solely on increasing production volumes, but also on optimising the nickel industry value chain. This approach aligns with the direction of national downstream policies, which encourage more efficient and competitive utilisation of mineral resources.
This operational resilience is also reflected in the company’s financial performance. PT Vale booked revenue of US$990.20 million with a net profit reaching US$76.06 million. This achievement shows that the company is still able to maintain profitability amidst nickel market conditions that have not fully recovered due to global price pressures and increased supply from various producing countries.
Maintaining profit in a challenging market situation serves as an indicator that the company is capable of maintaining operational efficiency while managing production costs with discipline. This provides an important foundation for the sustainability of the company’s future investments and business expansion.
Beyond operational and financial performance, PT Vale also demonstrated an increasingly strong commitment to responsible business practices. From an ESG perspective, the company recorded a Sustainalytics score of 23.7, placing PT Vale in the Medium Risk category. More importantly, this risk score decreased by 19.39 per cent compared to the previous year, indicating tangible improvements in managing environmental, social, and corporate governance risks.
This improvement was further bolstered by achieving an ASEAN Corporate Governance Scorecard (ACGS) of 99.53, an increase of 0.86 per cent compared to 2023. This near-perfect score reflects the company’s consistency in strengthening transparency, accountability, board governance, shareholder protection, and the application of good corporate governance principles recognised at a regional level.
International recognition of the company’s reputation also arrived. In 2025, PT Vale successfully entered the Fortune Southeast Asia 500 list, an achievement that places the company as one of the largest-scale corporations in the Southeast Asian region. This recognition is not merely a symbol of prestige, but reflects the company’s capacity to maintain competitiveness amidst the transformation of the global mining industry.
Overall, PT Vale’s journey throughout 2025 shows an increasingly clear direction of transformation. The company is not only striving to maintain production performance and profitability but is also building a foundation for long-term growth through the strengthening of governance, improved quality of ESG implementation, and the development of downstream industries that provide greater added value to the national economy.
Amidst global challenges that have not yet fully subsided, these achievements show that corporate success is no longer measured solely by the volume of production or profits obtained. Moving forward, the competitiveness of the mining industry will increasingly be determined by a company’s ability to integrate productivity, efficiency, innovation, sustainability, and good governance into every aspect of its operations. PT Vale’s performance throughout 2025 provides a picture that the company is moving in that direction—building growth that is not only oriented towards economic results but also towards the creation of long-term value for shareholders, society, and the environment.
