The National Commission on Violence Against Women (Komnas Perempuan) has said that sexual violence dominates gender-based violence against women in 2025. Based on data collected by Komnas Perempuan, there were 24,472 cases of sexual violence against women in 2025. The finding was presented by Komnas Perempuan Commissioner Chatarina Pancer Istiyani at the launch of Komnas Perempuan’s 2025 Annual Report, held ahead of International Women’s Day on Friday, 6 March 2026. ‘Looking at the forms, based on gender-based violence against women, sexual violence is the highest, followed by psychological violence, physical violence, and economic violence,’ Chatarina said at the launch of the 2025 Annual Report. Komnas detailed: psychological violence recorded 15,727 cases, physical violence 14,126 cases, and economic violence 5,942 cases. According to Komnas’ notes, women aged 18 to 24 were the most affected, with 1,453 victims reported. This is followed by ages 25 to 40 with 985 victims. The same pattern is seen among perpetrators. The perpetrators most commonly aged 18 to 24, with a total of 861 perpetrators. This is followed by the 25 to 40 age range, with 766 perpetrators reported. Additionally in the Catahu, Komnas recorded a total of 376,529 cases of violence against women reported throughout 2025. This figure rose by 14.07 percent compared to the previous year, which stood at 330,097 cases. By domain, 337,961 cases of violence against women occurred in the private or personal domain. Public-domain violence accounted for 17,525 cases, and in the state domain 2,707 cases. Commissioner Maria Ulfah Ansor said Catahu is not merely a collection of figures; it is a portrait of the real experiences of women victims of violence. ‘This is also a mirror for the state and society to assess how far the protection system, law enforcement, and victim recovery have progressed,’ she said.
