200 to join Bandung road racing meet

JAKARTA (JP): More than 200 racers from various cities are expected to join the second leg of the national road racing championships on the Gazebo circuit, Bandung, slated for March 25-26.

Racing official Dolly Indra Nasution said the main event will feature underbone tune-up 110cc class, standard 110c class and 150cc class for beginners with a total cash prizes of Rp6 million (US$2,707) on offer.

"The Yamaha and Suzuki teams have confirmed they will field their best racers," organizing secretary Faryd Sungkar told reporters on Wednesday.

Edmond Cho, manager of the Yamaha team, said the racers his team would field would include Petrus, Ade Taruna, Akhmad Jayadi, Noval and Pieter Tanujaya, who is best known here as crosser.

Imanuddin, deputy manager of the Suzuki team, said Asep Hendro, who ranks first at the championships' first leg, Dicky Setiawan, Felix and Kery Utama, all of whom come from Jakarta, will be among the racers his team will rely on.

Farid said Irwan Oktavian, who won 155cc standard, has confirmed entry along with Imron from Surabaya and winner of 135cc division, Guntur Indrajayanata.

The third, fourth, fifth and sixth legs of the Bentoel International road race will be held in Solo on April 29-30, in Surabaya on June 17-18, in Banjarmasin on Sept. 2-3 and in Palembang on Sept 30 to Oct. 1 respectively. In the final leg in Palembang, the best ten will compete for a total cash prize of Rp 20 million.

At the first leg in Jakarta, Asep Hendro from Bandung came as the winner for tune-up 110cc with 20 points, followed by Dicky Setiawan of Jakarta with 17 points and Felix Muhamad of Jakarta with 15 points. (arf)
