International Labour Day or May Day will be held tomorrow at the National Monument (Monas) in Central Jakarta. Traffic engineering has been prepared to secure the flow of traffic.

“The engineering we have carried out includes arranging travel routes for our brothers and sisters coming from East Java, Central Java, West Java, up to Lampung; we have set the flow towards Monas, including bus parking pockets that will be used,” said the Director of Traffic of Metro Jaya Police, Kombes Komarudin, on Thursday (30/4/2026).

Based on preliminary data received, around 200,000 workers will come to Monas. Several groups will also carry out activities around Jakarta.

“Based on the latest data we received, more than 200,000 workers will go to Monas, and there are several groups that may carry out activities at several points in Jakarta,” he explained.

“Therefore, on this occasion, we inform that Jakarta is likely to be quite crowded tomorrow. However, we will endeavour to ensure all activities can proceed even if there is some slowdown,” he added.

According to him, there will be around 4,000 buses heading to Jakarta. Several points will also be anticipated as tomorrow coincides with the long weekend holiday.

“We carry out traffic flow engineering situationally. This engineering involves diversions or closures if certain road sections become congested with heavy volume; then we will carry out diversions or even closures if necessary,” he stated.

He has prepared several zones as indicators for implementing traffic engineering. Those zones will be monitored to determine if traffic engineering is needed.

“We hope we stay in the green zone, meaning all road sections can still be used for circulation of two-wheeled vehicles, four-wheeled vehicles, and participant buses that will enter,” he said.

Meanwhile, the yellow zone will be implemented if there is congestion around Monas. Then, engineering will be carried out starting from Sarinah, Tugu Tani, and Harmoni.

“This will start to be diverted or have its volume reduced to anticipate longer and prolonged congestion,” he explained.

As many as 1,793 traffic personnel will be deployed and distributed at several points. Based on the information received, workers arriving in Jakarta will start from the morning.
