The East Jakarta Transportation Sub-Department (Sudinhub) has sanctioned 20 vehicles during an illegal parking enforcement operation carried out at several high-risk locations in the Jatinegara area.

“As a result, in Zone A, which covers the Jatinegara area, we have taken action against 18 motorcycles and two cars, which have just been towed. This activity is still ongoing,” said the Head of East Jakarta Sudinhub, Harlem Simanjuntak, in Jatinegara, East Jakarta, on Monday.

The operation was conducted in East Jatinegara, West Jatinegara, and the Jatinegara Station area, all of which fall within Zone A. Meanwhile, another team carried out enforcement in the Kramat Jati area, designated as Zone B.

According to Harlem, the majority of the vehicles targeted were in violation by using pavements and road lanes as parking spaces. This condition was deemed to disrupt traffic flow and reduce the functionality of public facilities intended for pedestrians.

During the operation, officers did not only perform towing but also implemented the ‘Operasi Cabut Pentil’ (OCP) method, which involves deflating the tyres of several violating vehicles.

“Since we only have two tow trucks, which are currently fully utilised for activities in Zone B, we are using the tyre deflation method for the remaining violating vehicles,” Harlem explained.

Regarding further enforcement processes, private vehicles caught in the operation were handed over to the Traffic Unit for further inspection. Meanwhile, public transport and freight vehicles are being processed by the Transportation Agency and the East Jakarta Transportation Sub-Department in accordance with applicable regulations.

Harlem urged the public to increase awareness and discipline regarding parking vehicles in designated areas. “We urge the community to continue complying with existing rules and to park in the correct places. Let us work together to make East Jakarta a safe, comfortable, and organised region, ensuring we do not cause congestion or disturb public order,” Harlem stated.

He also ensured that similar operations will continue to be conducted periodically as an effort to suppress parking violations, which are frequent causes of congestion on several road sections.
