Twenty students from Universitas Bima Sakapenta (UBISA) in Tegal, Central Java, are currently taking part in a one-year international internship programme in Taiwan. The programme is a continuation of international cooperation that previously sent one student to Taiwan.

This was announced by Khafdilah, Chairman of the Bima Sakapenta Education Foundation, following the second Dies Natalis celebration of UBISA held at the campus on Jalan Gatot Subroto, Tegal, on Tuesday (15/9). The event was also attended by UBISA Rector Agus Suprihadi and the Mayor of Tegal, Dedy Yon Supriyono.

“The students currently undertaking the international internship in Taiwan are in their second semester. They have been placed with partner companies according to the fields of study they are pursuing on campus,” said Khafdilah.

Khafdilah explained that in Taiwan, the twenty UBISA students are following an internship programme. It is not a work placement programme; the internship lasts six months and can be extended twice in six-month increments, meaning roughly twelve months in total.

“Then, as a form of compensation, we cooperate with funders. They receive incentive facilities from industry, whether in the hospitality industry or the building industry. By ‘building’ I do not mean construction workers, but rather working there as designers,” explained Khafdilah.

According to Khafdilah, the twenty students are working in maintenance roles in offices or, primarily, in hospitality in Taiwan. Their studies also continue in the meantime. “And the results of the internship there are recognised; the assessment will be recognised and can count towards their SKS credits,” he clarified.

Yuan Haijiang, a representative of the China Alliance who attended UBISA’s second Dies Natalis, said he felt greatly honoured to be invited to the event. Asked about the cooperation involving the twenty UBISA students interning in Taiwan, Yuan said that for now, cooperation with Mainland China (the People’s Republic of China) is indeed pressing or more important.

“Many universities and educational institutions in China are ready to pursue cooperation with campuses in Indonesia, particularly in the city of Tegal, such as UBISA,” explained Mr. Yuan.
