Tulungagung, East Java (ANTARA) - As many as 20 officials from Tulungagung Regency are being examined by the KPK in Surabaya over three days this week, in connection with the investigation into an alleged extortion corruption case within the regency government. Acting Regent of Tulungagung Ahmad Baharudin said on Thursday that the examinations are taking place in a marathon session at the office of the East Java Representative of the Financial and Development Supervisory Agency (BPKP). “The examinations are being conducted over three days, from Wednesday to Friday this week at the BPKP in Surabaya. We do not yet know the details of the examination material,” he said. He added that the information received by the local government is still general in nature, namely that several officials are not coming to the office because they are responding to the KPK investigators’ summons. Meanwhile, the Head of the Legal Section of the Tulungagung Regional Secretariat, Chandra Gupta Mauria, confirmed the summoning. Based on the letter from the KPK, a total of around 20 officials are scheduled to undergo examination. According to him, the examinations are divided into several sessions. On Wednesday and Thursday, nine officials each have been examined, while the rest are scheduled to be examined the following day. “The examinations are being carried out in stages, not simultaneously, totalling around 20 officials,” he stated. Previously, the KPK had examined nine Tulungagung Regency officials to delve deeper into the alleged extortion related to the preparation of resignation statements from 16 heads of regional apparatus organisations. The examinations are part of the development of the investigation to strengthen the case construction being handled by the KPK.
