20 Steel Plates Missing from Bulungan Pedestrian Bridge Suspected Theft

Approximately 20 steel plates at the Bulungan Pedestrian Bridge (JPO) near the Attorney General’s Office (Kejagung) in Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta, have gone missing, suspected to be the result of vandalism.

The gaps left by the missing steel plates on the bridge have now been repaired by the Jakarta Provincial Highways Agency.

“Based on the results of the on-site inspection, 20 points of missing steel plates were found,” said the Head of the Data and Information Centre of the Jakarta Provincial Highways Agency, Siti Dinarwenny, in a statement on Tuesday (22/9).

She stated that the Jakarta Highways Agency has followed up on the damage to the Bulungan Pedestrian Bridge on Kyai Maja Street, South Jakarta, adjacent to the Attorney General’s Office. The damage is suspected to be caused by vandalism, which led to the loss of the steel plates on the bridge staircase floors.

Based on field conditions, the incident is suspected to have occurred during the night or towards dawn.

“Previously, the Kyai Maja Pedestrian Bridge was in good condition and had undergone major maintenance at the end of 2024,” she added.

“The work included replacing the entire bridge floor, replacing the roof, and repainting,” Siti continued.

As a follow-up, the Jakarta Provincial Highways Agency, through the South Jakarta Administrative City Highways Sub-department, conducted an inventory of the damage and ensured the availability of materials for the repair process, which commenced during the night.

The South Jakarta Administrative City Government has requested that residents report any sightings of the individuals responsible for the theft of the pedestrian bridge plates in the Bulungan, Kebayoran Baru area.

Several residents have expressed concern regarding the condition of the pedestrian bridge plates near the Attorney General’s Office building on Kyai Maja Street, Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta, which have been missing for two months.
