20 more gas stations to be built in city

JAKARTA (JP): Twenty new compressed natural gas (CNG) pump stations will be built around the city between now and the end of the year, says Kries H. Sulisto, president director of PT Otogas, a company dealing with compressed natural gas.

He said yesterday that the official agreement between the city administration and CNG companies will be signed this month, Antara reported.

There are now 13 CNG pump stations in Greater Jakarta, servicing some 700 taxis. A gas-fueled engine is fitted with a converter so it can run on CNG.

Converting an engine is expensive. Sulisto said it costs Rp 20 million to install the device in a bus engine. "It takes 12 days for each installation, and a special mechanic from England is needed for that," he said. (sur)
