20 Indonesian Hajj Pilgrims Pass Away in Saudi Arabia as of 9 May
The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah reports that the number of Indonesian hajj pilgrims who have passed away in Saudi Arabia has increased to 20 as of Saturday, 9 May 2026. “The Ministry of Hajj conveys its deepest condolences and ensures that all service rights for the deceased pilgrims are fulfilled in accordance with procedures,” said Ministry Spokesperson Ichsan Marsha in a written statement on Saturday, 9 May 2026. Entering the 19th day of the operational period for the 1447 Hijriah hajj pilgrimage, the Ministry of Hajj records that 170 pilgrims have been referred to the Indonesian Hajj Health Clinic (KKHI), 352 pilgrims referred to Saudi Arabian hospitals, and 77 pilgrims are still undergoing treatment. Ichsan stated that the Ministry of Hajj continues to remind pilgrims to discipline themselves in maintaining health, amid weather conditions in Medina and Mecca reaching 38-42 degrees Celsius. “We urge pilgrims to regulate their worship activities according to their capabilities, drink plenty of water, use personal protective measures, and immediately report any health disturbances,” he said. Overall, the departure and movement processes for pilgrims are reported to be running smoothly. As of 8 May 2026, 303 flight groups (kloter) with a total of 117,452 pilgrims and 1,209 personnel have been departed from Indonesia. The movement of pilgrims from Medina to Mecca is also taking place gradually. A total of 165 kloter with 63,822 pilgrims and 660 personnel have arrived in Mecca to perform the obligatory umrah and prepare for the peak of the hajj pilgrimage. In addition, 28 kloter with 10,731 pilgrims and 113 personnel in the second wave departure have also arrived at King Abdul Aziz International Airport, Jeddah. Ichsan said that service enhancements are continuously being carried out to ensure pilgrims can focus on worship. “Our priority is to ensure all Indonesian pilgrims receive the best services while in Saudi Arabia, from comfortable hotels, well-maintained meals, orderly transportation, to responsive health services,” he stated. On the accommodation side, the Medina Operational Area PPIH has recorded serving 267 kloter with a total of 104,796 pilgrims accommodated in 94 hotels. Meanwhile, the Mecca Operational Area PPIH serves 165 kloter with a total of 63,822 pilgrims spread across 180 hotels. Regarding meal services, Ichsan continued, a total of 2,782,118 meal boxes have been distributed to Indonesian pilgrims, consisting of 2,129,003 boxes in Medina and 653,115 boxes in Mecca. Meanwhile, the Bus Shalawat service in Mecca has operated 17 routes with a total of 969 trips to serve pilgrim mobility from hotels to the Grand Mosque.
