20 foreigners to get sentences cut
JAKARTA: Twenty foreign prisoners on the Indonesian resort
island of Bali will have their sentences cut by one to five
months to mark country's independence day, a report said
Wednesday.
"They will receive sentence cuts of between one and five
months that will be awarded by the governor of Bali," the head of
the Bali justice office Sriyanto was quoted by the Antara news
agency as saying.
Sriyanto said 19 of the inmates were currently serving time at
Denpasar state jail, while one other was in Gianyar prison.
He gave no names, but foreigners jailed in Bali are usually
serving time for drug offences.
Sriyanto said that two foreigners serving life sentence for
trafficking in large amount of narcotics were not given sentence
cuts.
Another 411 Indonesian inmates will also receive similar
sentence cuts for this year's independence day. --AFP
