2.8-Hectare Reservoir to be Built in Pesanggrahan to Reduce Flooding

The South Jakarta city government is preparing the construction of a 2.8-hectare reservoir on Jalan Rengas in Pesanggrahan as an effort to reduce flooding in several vulnerable points.

Head of the South Jakarta Water Resources Sub-Department, Santo, stated that the land owned by the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government will be utilised as a reservoir to store water.

“Besides infiltration wells, God willing, the land owned by the DKI Provincial Government on Jalan Rengas will be functioned as a reservoir,” said Santo in his statement received by Kompas.com on Monday (6/4/2026).

Currently, the dredging process has begun in part of the area.

However, the construction cannot yet proceed fully due to ongoing land administration obstacles.

Santo mentioned that around 4,000 square metres of land in the central part is still in the process of resolution.

“While waiting for that land to be cleared, currently we have started dredging in the peripheral parts of the land,” he said.

He hopes the administration issues will be resolved soon so that the reservoir construction can be accelerated.

Besides the reservoir, the South Jakarta city government is also preparing short-term measures through the construction of infiltration wells at several flood-prone points.

This programme is carried out together with the sub-district parties, which now have equipment to create infiltration wells independently.

In the future, every area in South Jakarta is targeted to have at least one infiltration well unit to strengthen flood control.

“We are striving for every area to have at least one infiltration well unit to help address flooding problems in South Jakarta,” said Santo.
