2,663 West Java Civil Servants Suspected of Online Gambling, Majority Part-Time PPPK

The Regional Civil Service Agency (BKD) of West Java Province has revealed that 2,663 employees are suspected of playing online gambling throughout 2025. The data was obtained from the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Centre (PPATK).

“There are civil servants who have already been subjected to disciplinary punishment, have retired, or have moved to other agencies,” said Head of West Java BKD, Dedi Supandi, on Tuesday.

He stated that those suspected of involvement in online gambling hold the status of Civil Servants (PNS) and Government Employees with Work Agreements (PPPK). The majority of the employees suspected of involvement are part-time PPPK workers, totalling 1,091 individuals, followed by 419 PNS and full-time PPPK.

The agency is deepening the investigation into the alleged involvement of the West Java Provincial Government employees by checking their take-home pay. He mentioned that if an employee’s expenditure exceeds their income, it will be immediately followed up.

Dedi said that each regional apparatus organisation has taken action against employees suspected of being involved in online gambling. Hundreds of employees are potentially subject to disciplinary punishment. “Around 279 employees are currently undergoing further investigation and are potentially subject to disciplinary punishment,” he revealed.

Dedi mentioned there are several reasons causing civil servants to get involved in online gambling. However, on average, the employees were playing for the first time. “Sanctions will be given based on the results of the investigation and the level of violation found. The sanctions can include postponement of periodic salary increases, postponement of promotion, or even demotion,” he said. Furthermore, if the violations are repeated, PPPK employees will face termination of their employment contracts or dismissal.
