Jakarta, KOMPAS.com - Alleged embezzlement by Hanania Travel has left approximately 2,500 pilgrims unable to perform Umrah in 2026. This was disclosed by victim representatives and their lawyer, Joddy Mulyasetya Putra, during a press conference in Tebet, South Jakarta, on Monday, 1 June 2026. “So total over 2,500 pilgrims (unable to depart for Umrah),” said one victim, Anny Rofi (30), at the location. In addition to Anny, around 43 others in the first group were also unable to depart. The cancellation was sudden, occurring on 18 March 2026 at around 8 PM WIB. Besides her group, another group scheduled to depart during Syawal (21 March to 3 April) brought the total to 1,500 people unable to go to the holy land. However, the pilgrims unable to depart during Syawal had already engaged in mediation with the travel agency, assisted by the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah. During the mediation, around 1,000 pilgrims requested refunds totaling approximately Rp 34 billion. The remaining pilgrims opted for rescheduling due to various reasons, including lack of funds to register with another travel agency. “The refund option will be resolved by 31 August, while rescheduling was promised starting from the first departure on 11 June. There are several groups departing on 11 June, 12 June, and so on until the dates released, which I believe go up to the end of July,” Anny added. Hanania Travel had requested that registered pilgrims for June and July departures settle the remaining Umrah costs, guaranteeing departure according to schedule. Approximately 1,400 prospective pilgrims scheduled for June and July departures also became victims. For the June and July departures, victims’ losses are estimated at Rp 50 billion. In total, around 2,500 pilgrims have been unable to depart, with losses reaching hundreds of billions. “The cheapest package is estimated at Rp 29.9 million. Taking the average at around Rp 35 million, total losses could reach nearly Rp 100 billion,” Anny explained.
