2,026-Metre Red and White Flag Parade Held in North Kalimantan

The Regional Leadership Council (DPD) of the Indonesian Youth National Committee (KNPI) in North Kalimantan, together with the Orang Indonesia (OI) community of Tarakan, initiated a 2,026-metre Red and White flag parade in Tanjung Selor, Bulungan, North Kalimantan, on Saturday (29/8).

KNPI North Kalimantan Secretary Sakti Abimayu said the 2026 Red and White Flag Parade, which carried the theme “Living Together Must Be Protected, Peace for Us Throughout the Ages”, was part of the commemoration of the 81st Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia.

“Our main goal is to uphold the values and sense of love for peace, not only among the public but also among the youth, particularly in Bulungan Regency, North Kalimantan Province,” he said.

According to him, the moment was also a source of pride for the youth of North Kalimantan because the 2,026-metre Red and White flag could fly over the land of Bulungan through a parade with more than 1,000 participants.

The parade route, he continued, started from the office of the 0903/Bulungan Military District Command (Kodim), then proceeded along Jalan SKIP and through Jalan Katamso to the Tugu Cinta Damai monument, covering a distance of approximately four kilometres.

The parade, which was officially launched by North Kalimantan Governor Zainal A. Paliwang, was joined by 60 community organisations, associations, youth organisations, students, and members of the Indonesian National Armed Forces and National Police.

“In essence, this activity is a form of youth contribution to enhancing the spirit of nationalism and active youth participation in building togetherness with the community,” said Sakti.

Chairman of the OI Tarakan Community Che Ageng said the Red and White flag parade in North Kalimantan has been held several times, and in Bulungan Regency specifically it has now been held twice, the first being in 2022 with a flag length of 677 metres to coincide with the 77th Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia.

“This year, in 2026, our flag is also 2,026 metres long. Hopefully next year it will continue to grow longer and more people will join the parade and hold the Red and White flag,” Che Ageng hoped.

North Kalimantan Governor Zainal A. Paliwang expressed appreciation for the enthusiasm of the public who took part in the parade. For him, activities like this are a simple way to keep the national spirit alive after the 17 August commemoration.

“Thank you to all participants who joined with such spirit. I also appreciate KNPI and all parties who have helped with this activity,” said North Kalimantan Governor Zainal A. Paliwang when releasing the parade participants.
