1998 Presidential
1998 Presidential election
From Editor
Gen. (ret.) Sumitro said recently that the post '45 generation could cash in on the 1994-1998 transition period to take over the commanding stick and continue this country's development. I agree with the general's statement.
In 1998, the 1945 generation will have finished their duty. That is the best time for the Indonesian people to choose their new leadership for the 1998-2003 period. Then it will be the younger generation's turn to make this country a glorious and prosperous one.
I think voting is one of the best ways of selecting a leader because it shows the fairness of a presidential election. It is indisputable that the person elected is the best citizen among us.
Both presidential and vice presidential candidates must have great self-confidence and be courageous enough to face challenges and compete with others.
The people wish that the next president of Indonesia be a national leader who is honest, fair, wise and has a high sense of responsibility.
