192 illegal logs seized in Bengkulu

BENGKULU: The local forestry police unit seized a total of 192
logs believed to be stolen from the protected forest in the
province.

Edy Kasik, chief of the local forestry office, said here on
Saturday that the logs were looted from the Balaui Rejang
protected forest.

He said the logs were seized from a local resident identified
as Bur.

"The suspect admitted that he stole the protected forest and
he was also involved the looting of 406 cubic meters which were
confiscated last week in Derarti Village in Rejang lebong
Subdistrict," he said.

He said the police have also detained five others and were
chasing for a local timber businessmen who has supplied illegal
logs from villagers. --Antara
