North Bekasi Police Station has revealed the motive behind the actions of a young mother, N (19), who abandoned her newborn daughter in a rubbish bin in a residential area in North Bekasi, Bekasi City, West Java. N admitted to abandoning her baby because she feared being evicted by her parents.

“The motive was that the perpetrator was afraid of her parents finding out and being scolded, and she was also afraid of being evicted from the house. This is because previously the perpetrator had been evicted by her parents due to frequently coming home late and not coming home,” said North Bekasi Police Chief AKP Tono Listianto to journalists at North Bekasi Police Station on Monday (9 March 2026).

“So she threw away the baby, hoping that the baby would be found by someone,” he added.

Tono stated that N had given birth without assistance. She is known to have delivered without medical support in the bathroom of her home.

Police moved quickly to trace the perpetrator after the baby was discovered on Friday (6 March). N was subsequently arrested on Sunday (8 March).

“Alhamdulillah on 8 March at around 23:00 WIB the Operational Team of North Bekasi Police Station successfully apprehended the suspected perpetrator, and the perpetrator was brought to the police station for further investigation,” he said.

N has been designated as a suspect and is being held at North Bekasi Police Station.

For her actions, the perpetrator has been charged under Article 429 paragraph 1 subsidiary to Article 430 of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code with a threat of maximum imprisonment of five years. Apart from N, police are currently questioning the perpetrator’s boyfriend as a witness.
