19 Palembang Transportation Officials to be Punished for Causing Chain of Accidents
The Palembang Inspectorate in South Sumatra has confirmed the imposition of sanctions on 19 members of the Palembang City Transportation Department (Dishub) who went viral for conducting an illegal raid and causing a chain of accidents in Karya Kaya, Kertapati, on Thursday (30/4). Head of the Palembang City Inspectorate Jamia Haryanti stated that the sanctions were determined after a joint team from the Inspectorate and the Palembang City BKPSDM examined the perpetrators, starting from Friday (1/5). “Today we have prepared the sanctions; five members have been decided to be dismissed, and we have reported this to the Mayor of Palembang, Ratu Dewa, for a decision,” she said in Palembang on Saturday (2/5), quoted from Antara. Meanwhile, the others will face grade demotions since some are part-time and full-time government employees under contract (PPPK). “The grade demotion will result in salary cuts, and they will also be transferred to remote areas, such as the Pulo Kemaro region,” she said. According to her, the case serves as a lesson for all Palembang City Government (Pemkot) employees to avoid tarnishing the city’s good name. “If similar unwanted actions are found again, we will ensure firm sanctions are imposed,” she emphasised. The incident went viral on social media on Thursday (30/4). In the video, several drivers claimed the chain of accidents began with actions by rogue members forcing a truck to stop, allegedly for extortion.
