185 Thousand Residents Still Displaced Following NTT Earthquake

The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) reported an increase of three fatalities, bringing the total death toll to 103 as of Tuesday (25/8/2026). Acting Head of the BNPB Data, Information, and Disaster Communication Centre, Berton Suar Pelita Panjaitan, detailed the casualties: 41 in Manggarai, 34 in East Manggarai, 13 in Nagekeo, 6 in Sikka, 5 in Ngada, 3 in Ende, and 1 in West Manggarai. The number of injured also rose by 63, bringing the total to 1,666 people. More than 185,000 residents remain displaced, with 185,131 people recorded as refugees, including 4,804 newly registered. Aftershocks are still being felt in the region.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education has confirmed that affected schools will be prioritised for revitalisation. Minister Abdul Mu’ti stated that the government remains optimistic and committed to overcoming the disaster through cooperation and mutual support. The ministry has prepared Rp860 million in cash vouchers for 61 schools, along with essential logistics including 9,400 non-textbooks, 495 school kits, 30 family kits, 1,000 t-shirts, and 1,650 packages. Data collection on affected schools is ongoing to determine further needs. Once verification and validation are complete, cooperation agreements will be signed and construction will commence.
