178 reporters sign up for Bali trial

DENPASASR, Bali: So far 178 Indonesian and foreign journalists have registered with the police to cover next month's trial of a key suspect behind the Oct. 12 Bali bombing, police said on Monday.

"The number of reporters will likely swell to 250, considering the trial is not due until end of April," Bali Police spokesman Adj. Sr. Comr. Suyatmo said.

The trial will be open to the public. Part of the ongoing preparations include the construction of two platforms on both sides of the courtroom for television crews and photographers, Suyatmo said.

Bali bomb suspect Amrozi is slated to go on trial next month for his alleged involvement in the bombing that killed 202 people, mainly foreign tourists. -- Antara
