173 Passengers Evacuated from Burning Ferry KMP Putri Yasmin, One Fatality Confirmed

Search and rescue teams have evacuated 173 people from the passenger ferry KMP Putri Yasmin, which caught fire in the Sekotong waters of the Lombok Strait on Wednesday morning. The head of the Mataram Search and Rescue Office, Muhamad Hariyadi, confirmed that one person has died, while 172 others survived the incident. The fire broke out at approximately 4.15 a.m. local time, and a joint SAR operation remains ongoing to ensure no additional victims are in the vicinity. The coordinated response involves the Mataram and Denpasar SAR offices, the Indonesian Navy, local port authorities, medical teams, and nearby vessels, with aerial support provided by an SGi Air Bali helicopter.
