17 Old Angkots Netted in Bogor City Raid, 977 Units Still Operating

The Bogor City Government, together with the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) and the Indonesian National Police (Polri), conducted a joint operation targeting urban transport vehicles (angkot) with a technical age exceeding 20 years. A total of 17 angkots were netted and had their operational permits frozen.

“Around 17 angkots were caught in the operation, proven to have exceeded the 20-year technical age limit. We took firm action, striking them off and marking them as unroadworthy,” said Bogor Deputy Mayor Usmar Hariman after the raid on Jalan Kapten Muslihat, Wednesday (12/8/2026).

Deputy Mayor Usmar stated that several angkots were found to have been caught twice. For recalcitrant angkots, their attributes and even seats were stripped to prevent them from operating again.

“This enforcement is not my authority; the transport department and the Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP) are merely carrying out their duties to regulate this city. If they have been marked twice and are still operating, we remove all their attributes, including pulling out the seats inside,” said Usmar.

Separately, the Head of the Transport Division at the Bogor City Transport Department (Dishub), Dody Wahyudin, said the total number of angkots recorded as having exceeded the 20-year technical age limit is 1,780 units. To date, 803 units have had their operational permits frozen.

“As of 10 August, the number of over-20-year-old angkots whose permits have been frozen is 320 units, while 483 units have had theirs revoked. So the total is 803 units,” said Doddy when contacted separately.

“So currently, there are around 977 angkot units with a technical age of over 20 years that are estimated to still be operating or have not yet submitted their documents to the transport department. We continue to conduct routine operations, both mobile patrols and joint raids at specific points,” he added.
