17 injured in bus crash

CIREBON, West Java: At least 17 people were injured, five
seriously, in a bus crash early on Monday.

Buses owned by Cahaya Baru and ANS, both crammed with
passengers, collided head-on when the former was trying to
overtake a truck. The maneuver was too late to avoid the oncoming
bus.

The driver of the Cahaya Baru bus, who was among those
critically injured, tried to veer left by cutting off the truck,
but not in time to avoid impact with the ANS bus.

Police impounded the ANS bus after its driver and conductor
fled the scene, Antara reported. (pan)
