17 illegal homes bulldozed in Sidoarjo

SIDOARJO, East Java: Authorities in Sidoarjo, East Java,
bulldozed 17 houses which were built illegally on land belonging
to state-owned enterprise PT Jasa Marga.

Some 35 families who owned the houses had to leave the
location and did not demand any compensation having admitted they
had illegally occupied the land.

"We thank residents who did not resist the eviction. We had to
do it because the land will be used by the state-owned company to
build houses for their employees working on the Waru toll road,"
said Suyono, a security guard of the local administration who led
the eviction operation. --Antara
